Men's Violence Against Women
Wherever men are brutalizing, raping, oppressing, abusing, and demeaning women and girls, our world is diminished, losing not only the power and goodness of women's nurture and intelligence, but the potential for good of those men who are the brutalizers. As Eve Ensler has said it so eloquently when speaking about men's violence: "What greater tyranny is there to be separated from your heart?" Until all of our institutions, our communities, and our media directly confront the culture of male violence, we can never hope to transform our world. All you have to do is listen to the language: "women are being raped in the Congo"and "some people have been arrested for the rape of the girl at Richmond High School." Women get raped, women suffer from domestic violence, women are harassed on the street....it's always about being female and women enduring abuse but never about the beliefs, behaviors and attitudes of men and boys. What's wrong with this picture?
