You are always beautiful...

I have dealt with what I consider to be a great deal of abuse and hatred in my life and the hardest part for me, my main struggle, has always been deep within myself! We tend to work on forgiveness and teach our children how to forgive others, but I never learned and I still have yet to figure out how to forgive myself. I have not even after twenty seven years been able to move past many painful memories and continuous nightmares, and to think about what women are going through in the Congo on a regular basis makes me sick to my stomach! I have been working for years on trying to forgive all of the people that have betrayed me, my trust in them, and as I sit here thinking about what to say to the women of the Congo and other areas that are experiencing such inhumane abuse I realize that the important thing has got to be forgiveness for ourselves! The women of the Congo must know that it is not their fault that these things happen; it is not our fault that we are born with a vagina and because of that seen as the weaker sex. It is not our fault that men have been able to dominate and abuse us but it is our fault that we see so much hatred and ugliness and do nothing about it!

We are still beautiful beings: we are, every one of us capable of forgiveness to our abusers but so often not for ourselves. I haven't been able to reach this inside of myself, but I see it and I send all positive, loving energy that I am capable of sending to the women of the Congo, Iran, and even here in the United States. You are still beautiful, you are so strong, you will make it, and you will see a brighter day! I know that this light lives inside each and every one of us, and even though I have not claimed mine for myself I am sending it to shine on every beautiful woman out there that can't find it inside themselves either! It is in you, just as I know it is in me and together we can make sure that this light never goes out and continues to get brighter every minute!!! We will not continue as "woman" we shall now and forever be the beautiful beings that we have always been and help nurture and continue our newly found independence and strength that lives within every one of us!

peace and love to all

Dear Selena,
you have written such an impacting message! It is really admirable how you are fighting to forgive the persons that made you suffer. I hope you get to forgive yourself because there is nothing to forgive in you. You have not caused anything.

As you say... you are SO beautiful.

this is avery beautiful message, and one i need to hear so much. I, like you have been abused and raped and lately, have been feeling enormous self hate and despair and over self involvement.

Thank you again for your loving and powerful words.

As the violence in the Eastern DRC continues, your support & your voice are critical. Hundreds of thousands of women and girls have been raped, and thousands more are at risk every day.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT , let the women of the Congo hear you, speak out against this violence, send your message of hope, empowerment, change and victory.

CHANGING THE STORY
Join V-Day’s global campaign STOP RAPING OUR GREATEST RESOURCE: POWER TO THE WOMEN AND GIRLS OF DRC and bring much needed attention to the needs of Congolese women and girls.

The atrocities being perpetrated against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo are nothing less than a femicide.
